Are you passionate about the wellbeing and safety of wāhine, Tamariki and whānau?

Te Whare Aio and Te Whare o Ngā Tūmanako Māori Women's Refuges have combined ‘forces’ and are looking for a dynamic, motivated and experienced individual to join this amazing team working across Tamaki Makaurau – Auckland.

You will be working between two refuge Safe Houses which are based in West Auckland and South Auckland, so where you live is not an issue.

This is a night shift role and is full time permanent, between 7.00pm and 3.30am Thursday to Monday (Tuesday and Wednesday off). These hours are not negotiable, and you MUST be able to commit to working them.

During your first 3 months you will be well supported with induction training at both refuge Safe House sites and in the Ellerslie office, so flexibility with location is a MUST over this period.

In this role you will provide supervision, security and ensure the health and safety for wāhine and their Tamariki in the Safe Houses. Please note, you will not be holding a caseload or responsible for staff. You will also be providing afterhours crisis line response which will require you to complete assessments, and intakes into the Safe Houses. Some experience in crisis line would be preferred, but training will be provided.

That right person will have an understanding and experience of the dynamics dealing with whānau experiencing whānau violence. This role could suit those who have worked in social services, peer support, Mental Health or Addictions.

Other important attributes include:

  • Conflict management and de-escalation techniques
  • Understanding of Tikanga and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi Principles
  • Excellent communication, listening skills and computer skills
  • Clear professional boundaries and a non-judgmental manner
  • Being highly motivated, positive, solution focused and a team player are a must
  • Flexible attitude and 'can do' approach
  • High level of self-awareness
  • Ability to multi-task and deal with competing priorities
  • Adaptability with the ability to work in a fluid and sometimes stressful environment
  • A clean, full driver’s licence and positive police vetting results under the Vulnerable Children's Act
  • NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa
