Family Violence Specialist (Registered Social Worker or *Registered Professional)

Full-time position

Fixed-term contract until April 2026

 

About us

Hutt Valley Women’s Refuge exists to support all women, children and whānau in the Hutt Valley to live free from family violence. We are a small team with big ambitions. We offer crisis support, safe houses, advocacy, education and prevention programmes, and more. We do this in partnership with agencies and the wider community with the aim to eliminate family violence across the Hutt Valley.

 

About the role

This is a fixed-term contract until April 2026 to cover an internal secondment of a staff member. This role is for a registered social worker or *registered professional.

 

You will be working directly with women and children, providing individual support such as safety planning and risk assessments, advocacy, program delivery, and other services.

 

Responsibilities

  • working directly with clients; providing individual support, programme delivery and services

  • collaborating with stakeholders, partners and networks representing our services and clients

  • influencing our point of view on services and family violence

  • spotting opportunities and help drive service improvements and bold initiatives

  • creating, contributing and maintaining a positive team culture

  • contributing to efforts that give confidence to stakeholders.

 

About you

We are looking for a passionate specialist who has a range of qualities including:

  • a good understanding of the complexity of family violence and its impacts on families, particularly children and young people

  • a commitment to getting the best outcomes for families

  • flexible; able to adapt to the challenges that come with working with people in crisis who are affected by family violence

  • collaborative and discrete; working with others individually and in teams

  • autonomous and able to self-manage with a reflective approach
