ECLIPSE's Older People and Family Violence training introduces you to the dynamics of family violence older people experience. The online course will introduce you to concepts relating to ageing, ageism, and elder abuse.

This online course is self-paced, so you can complete it at your own pace. There are spaces for you to reflect and quizzes throughout to test your learning. The online course includes a comprehensive workbook to support your learning. This online course is approximately 2 hours of learning.

This course covers the Essential level capabilities relating to older people and family violence of the Te Aorerekura Entry to Expert Family Violence Workforce Capability Framework.

About the Course
ECLIPSE's Older People and Family Violence online course consists of three modules:

Module 1: Ageing, Diversity and Older People explores the diverse nature of older people and the ageing process. You'll be introduced to the concept of ageism and be challenged to reflect on your own personal beliefs and biases about ageing.

Module 2: Elder Abuse focuses on the critical issue of elder abuse, providing insights into its various forms, such as physical, emotional, sexual, financial abuse, and neglect.

Module 3: Elder Abuse and Family Violence examines the intersection of family violence and elder abuse and the various dynamics that may exist. You'll also be introduced to strategies you can utilise when you are worried about someone experiencing elder abuse.

Through completing this online course, you will have a greater understanding of the following E2E capabilities:

Respect for the diversity of older people’s experiences and needs.

How personal beliefs and values in relation to older people shapes practice.

Societal attitudes and behaviours that discriminate towards older people.

Some forms of family violence that are outside the gendered dynamic of family (e.g. abuse experienced by older adults).

Societal norms, attitudes and myths that render older adults who experience sexual harm invisible.

Different dynamics of family violence that may be experienced by older people, including violence and neglect from children and carers.

The range of specialist family violence services and agencies available to older people.

ECLIPSE training courses align with the principles of Te Aorerekura: National Strategy to Eliminate Family Violence and Sexual Violence and have been mapped to the Essential level of the Entry to Expert Family Violence Workforce Capability Framework.
