Walking on Eggshells: Understanding Coercive Control

Kia ora whānau

This is a really powerful and informative 16 minute video of coercive control, what it looks like, feels like and the kinds of behaviours to identify.

It focuses on the very subtle and insidious ways in which coercive control begins, so slowly at the start, and how it grows and evolves in control until primary victims are entrapped with nowhere to turn to.  “It is like a drip, drip, drip effect”.

The power of coercive control is that we truly begin to believe that as primary victims we are at fault, and for others we know it isn’t our fault but have no ability to safely change our world.

The greatest way to measure coercive control is to understand how much, or little freedom the person you are serving has in their own world.

Well worth watching.
