ECLIPSE's Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Family Violence course explores the impacts of colonisation on Māori and relates this to the context of family violence. This course is for practitioners at the Essential Level of the Entry to Expert Family Violence Workforce Capability Framework.

ECLIPSE’s Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Family Violence course provides participants with a greater understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. The course introduces the impacts of colonisation and dynamics of whānau violence that may be experienced by tangata whenua.
Through attending this course, you’ll gain a greater understanding of:

Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the impacts of colonisation and racism.

The unique status and experiences of tangata whenua as indigenous people.

Tikanga Māori beliefs, values, and collective practice.

Different dynamics of whānau violence that may be experienced by tangata whenua.

The importance of supervision, particularly cultural supervision.

As a mother, grandmother and a survivor of childhood abuse and family violence Karen passionate about whānau wellbeing. Karen has a long career in social work practice, with a belief in ensuring the right of tino rangatiratanga for tamariki, rangatahi and whānau Māori. When we stand strong in te ao Māori, we live a life that is built on aroha, free from violence.
Karen is a registered social worker, an educator and a kaitiaki. Karen has ten year’s experience working in social work education and is passionate about supporting people to understand their rights and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
